Message from the President Hello and welcome to Grafton for the 54th Annual Jacaranda Basketball Carnival.   After you finish reading my ramble, you can scroll to the bottom of the page for all the important information such as the draw and carnival rules. Due to the global pandemic the carnival was reduced to just 6 local teams in 2020, while the 2021 event had to be cancelled. I believe that this is the first time in the carnivals history that it has had to be cancelled and it was not a decision that the Grafton Basketball Association Inc. Committee took lightly, but in the best interest of the players and volunteers the tough decision was made. The first thing you will notice when you arrive at what was the Grafton Sports Centre is a fantastic new venue in the PCYC Grafton. The transformation of the centre has been outstanding; however, it has left us with just 2 courts, thus the change to a 3 day carnival. This year we have 30 teams participating, which in the current format is the maximum number of teams we can fit in. Next years carnival will be a full 3 days of games so that we can welcome some more teams back to what I believe is the best senior basketball carnival in Australia. The 2023 Carnival will be held on Friday 20, Saturday 21 and Sunday 22, October.  The change of venue management also means that what may have been seen as "normal" over the past 54 years is no longer acceptable (this is a nice way of saying don't bring drinks into the centre and don't turn up intoxicated!). Please don't make us become the fun police or draw attention from the actual Police who are stationed here at the centre. Perhaps save your "socialising" until Friday and Saturday nights at some of our fantastic local establishments.   This year will be the first carnival that we have held without the presence of two of our Life Members and carnival stalwarts Bruce Leonard and Roma Brotherson who have both passed away. It will be sad not have Bruce great us as we walk through the front door or having Roma scoring our games. We have set up a little tribute to these fantastic members in the entry hall. Please take some time to have a look.   We will be having a special presentation on Friday evening following the last game and would love to see as many of you there as possible. It is an event not to be missed! We have partnered with Port Macquarie company Coast2Coast Sport to offer a range of merchandise for the carnival. You can check out the merchandise here, or drop in and see the stall that we have set up to grab some merchandise. If you ordered some merchandise to be picked up while you are at the carnival they can be picked up here also. If you have any questions or concerns during your time here, please see one of our friendly volunteers who can't be missed in their purple polos.  We have a number of sponsors that have come on board to support our carnival. While you are in town please support these businesses that support us. Thank you all for coming to the Carnival. Wether it is you first carnival, your 54th Carnival or somewhere in between, I trust that you will enjoy your time in Grafton and at the Carnival and play in the spirit of the game.   Nathan Martin President- Grafton Basketball Association Inc.
